Cornell University

Are you StormReady?

June 28, 2024

Cornell University is certified as a StormReady university because of weather-related policies, procedures and weather preparedness resources. Cornell also maintains a strong working relationship with the National Weather Service office in Binghamton.

The Division of Public Safety monitors weather conditions and forecasts and may issue CornellALERT emergency messages during extremely dangerous weather, such as a tornado, or when dangerous weather occurs during major university events. CornellALERT messages pertain only to Cornell and are independent of National Weather Service alerts.

The National Weather Service regularly issues weather alerts for severe thunderstorms, flash flooding, winter storms, air quality and other hazardous weather. To receive those alerts, sign up for New York Alert messages and subscribe to weather alerts for your county. Sign up for Tompkins County SIREN to receive additional Ithaca and Tompkins County emergency messages.
